Wendy Maitland

Founder, CEO & Principal Broker / Licensed Real Estate Broker

Wendy’s New York City luxury real estate brokerage career began in 2002. Shortly after garnering the Rookie of the Year award her first year in the business, she went on to lead the luxury sales market in both new development and resales south of 57th Street as the top broker downtown for six years running. Wendy has represented dozens of new developments while maintaining an active presence in the luxury residential market and in investment sales. Among the transactions in which Wendy represented either the seller or buyer several records were set, including: the highest price per square foot for condo development downtown; highest blended price per square foot new development sellout in TriBeCa; highest pure price point townhouse sale on the Upper West Side; and highest price-per-square-foot townhouse sale in the history of Manhattan, a record that held for eight years. In her role as president of sales for the fastest growing real estate brokerage firm in the history of NYC, she hired over 400 brokers and agents within the first two years, while leading company sales to cross the twelve-billion dollar hurdle during her five year tenure. In the Spring of 2016, Wendy returned to her first career love (outside of writing), working with clients directly in brokerage.

Focused on a multi-generational client base, Atelier WM was envisioned and established by Wendy to support clients by helping to identify the best path towards attaining multi-layered goals and executing swiftly to achieve those goals. Wendy's experienced hand and nuanced understanding of all facets of the luxury, new development and commercial markets along with her fluid understanding of psychology create a distinctive and bespoke experience for each of our clients.

Though I've had all manner of experiences with real estate brokers over many years in NYC, there's only one who stands out: Wendy Maitland. I met Wendy twenty years ago when she sold my husband and I a gorgeous and expensive loft in Noho. When we decided to sell it and move to Brooklyn about ten years later, Wendy got the job. She soon found us a buyer, at asking price, who at the eleventh hour tried to extort us for $50K. I was furious. Wendy had my back when she said "you're right, it's outrageous and I'm with you" which shocked me and which I never forgot. No broker I'd ever worked with would have stood by us when a deal was potentially on the line. When the buyer came back two weeks later with his tail between his legs I had decided I wanted to stay put - alas, Wendy lost the commission. Eight years after that, with a divorce behind me, we put the place on the market again, this time, for complicated reasons, with another broker who failed to find a buyer after six months. My ex hired a second broker and the first broker got creative with the truth and suddenly became a bully. She has not spoken to me since, which I guess was not a surprise. Again, no commission for Wendy and not even the hint of an attitude, which impressed me greatly. Alone and scared, I set out to buy a new apartment in Brooklyn, which Wendy and her team found for me in no time. I moved in, with a lot of handholding from Wendy, not to mention a Valentines Day visit with champagne, and expected to close any day. A long year later, and hundreds of emails and phone calls among lawyers, brokers and the sponsor, there was no closing and I was given the right to rescind my offer. No commission for Wendy. Back to the drawing board, with a smile on her face, Wendy quickly found me the new apartment from which I'm writing and that I love. Again, I was scared and inexperienced and she not only did everything in her power to 1) negotiate the deal and 2) navigate the condo board efficiently which enabled me to close very quickly, but held my hand the entire time, making herself available at all hours. This is the story of a human being who is clearly a very smart person and hard worker, but much more importantly, an intuitive and warm soul from whom, in all these years, I have never once felt pressure, resentment or impatience. In any professional world, there are the unique people who stand out for reasons that go beyond their skill alone, and in real estate Wendy is the one I've been fortunate to have found.

It’s my pleasure to recommend Wendy Maitland based on our work together over the course of the past ten years. I engaged Wendy to represent the marketing and sale of two townhouses, at 400 West Street and 5 Centre Market Street respectively. Wendy successfully listed, marketed, and sold each of my properties in tough and changing NYC markets. Wendy navigated each complex situation that arose like a ninja, keeping her team (and me) on point at every twist and turn. Wendy’s strategy and tenacity are unparalleled in a business where brokers are often reluctant to go the extra mile in the face of a challenge. She brought in high profile influencers who were the target buyer demographic for each property, procuring offers and transactions from literally the most well-known entertainment and finance world names. My wife Cortney and I were impressed with the out-of-the-box strategy and events Wendy produced and hosted to expose our properties in the best possible light to buyers, brokers and the media. Each of our homes were featured in a bevy of publications including the Wall Street Journal and the NY Post which undoubtedly helped drive momentum. We have recommended Wendy to several family members and friends, each of whom let me know their appreciation for the referral. We recently referred Wendy to a friend who was dissatisfied with her then broker’s handling of her $10M Soho loft. She hadn’t received any bona fide offers in the six months her loft had been on the market. Wendy’s handling resulted in a bidding war and a contract over the asking price within two weeks. It’s always satisfying to be able to make a solid recommendation to a trustworthy and highly capable professional who, in this case, has become a friend. It is without hesitation that I highly recommend Wendy.
